Cancer Connections has promised all along that we would provide a special, welcoming home-from-home where people experiencing cancer could come to find the help and support they needed, and would feel safe and comfortable amongst friends.
On 26th October this objective was realised when Cancer Connections welcomed visitors for the first time to our new home at 258 Harton Lane, South Shields.
The fundraising target of £350,000 was reached in April 2010 and since then a small army of workmen and volunteers has worked hard to refurbish the bungalow. Many have given their energy, skills and time for free; others have worked at cost, and many local suppliers have been generous with gifts of materials or significant price reductions.
We are extremely grateful to all who have contributed – without the kindness, generosity and hard work of so many people this wonderful achievement would not have been possible.
Our facilities include a cosy lounge, open plan kitchen-diner, childrens’ corner, counselling room, complementary therapy room, quite room, conservatory, offices and garden.
