A COMMUNITY has come together to help boost a charity fund. Primrose Village in Jarrow held a wide range of events to raise cash for our Quids In campaign. Valley View Primary School, Primrose Children’s Centre and Primrose Community Centre all got involved to swell Cancer Connections’ coffers.
The school council organised a non-uniform day, with each pupil paying £1 for the privilege of wearing what they wanted. Parents and carers also filled the school hall for a coffee morning organised by Michelle Grimmer, a parent and governor of the school.
Mrs Grimmer, who has had skin cancer herself, hosted an assembly on Wednesday to explain where their cash was going.
She said: “It was fabulous to see the events so well supported by children, staff, parents and carers, and it had a real community feel.
“Cancer Connections is a charity close to my heart. I don’t know what I would have done if they hadn’t been there. “The support from our community has been tremendous.”
Children and staff from Primrose Children’s Centre donated £1 each to come dressed in blue, the signature colour of Cancer Connections, and also took part in a toddle around the grounds. During the afternoon Primrose Children’s Centre and Primrose Community Association hosted a coffee afternoon.
Mark Frazer, Headteacher of Valley View Primary School and Primrose Children’s Centre said: “We always encourage our children to support valuable causes like Cancer Connections. “The charity has supported members of our community in the recent past, so it is wonderful to be able to help them to continue their excellent work.”
