Fundraisers at Lukes Lane Community SchoolTHESE wacky hairstyles and crazy quiffs have raised more than just eyebrows!
Lukes Lane Community School’s Mad March Hair day saw youngsters parting with their uniforms and sporting weird hairdos.

And the Marine Drive school in Hebburn has coined in £270 for our Quids In campaign.

Cancer Connections in South Shields is aiming to buy a home-from-home for patients, carers and their families and is now down to raising its final £15,000.

The school came up with the idea after seeing other schools do the event in previous years and because Cancer Connections is advertising for its annual Mad March Hair Walk.

Last year the walk raised about £10,000 and the charity is hoping plenty of people will get on board this year and boost funds.

Angela Docherty, community cohesion officer at the school, said: “All the kids got involved and paid their £1 to come in to school in non-uniform and with mad hair.

“We had all sorts of styles. Some children dyed their hair, some had foil in and we even had chickens in someone’s hair.

“When we saw the campaign in the paper we knew we wanted to do something but weren’t sure what. When we saw the Mad March event, it made perfect sense. We have raised lots of money for different charities over the years but it’s always nice to do something close to home.”

Deborah Roberts, co-founder of Cancer Connections, said: “It’s great to see a new generation of fundraisers getting behind Cancer Connections.

“Every day we are getting closer to our target and we are so pleased people continue to back us.”
