College staff pulled on their walking boots to raise cash in memory of a friend and former colleague Angie Churchill who died of breast cancer in March The group from South Tyneside College raised £860 by taking part in the Great North Walk.
They chose Cancer Connections because Elaine Hanson, a college data administrator, had been helped by the charity when she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Elaine, who is now in remission, said “ The death of Angie touched everyone here at the college and hammered home the impact this devastating illness can have.”
“The charity has been a lifeline to me, providing emotional and physical support. We hope that this donation will help towards Cancer Connections goal of buying a house”.
