The South Shields branch of Leeds Building Society asked customers to decorate its Christmas tree with a festive tribute in memory of a loved one. Each Christmas message cost £1, with all money raised being donated to Cancer Connections.
It’s the first time the branch, in Fowler Street, South Shields, has had a memorial Christmas tree.
Assistant branch manager Chris Newsome said: “We have a real tree which everyone has been quite impressed with. “It was my colleague Joanne Butler’s idea to decorate it with messages, as opposed to normal Christmas baubles. ” She has made the tags herself.
The Leeds Building Society Christmas tree raised £560.00 for Cancer Connections.
